Description :

WHAT IS IT?

HMB-45, a monoclonal antibody that responds against the antigen found in melanocytic malignancies like melanomas, stands for Human Melanoma Black. It serves as a marker in diseases for the diagnosis of cancers linked to melanoma. The particular antigen that the HMB-45 recognizes is Pmel 17. Dr. Allen Gown and Dr. Arthur Vogel made the discovery. Since only melanocytic cancers react positively to it, not other malignancies, this demonstrates its specificity and sensitivity. Since HMB-45 has a melanoma sensitivity of 92%, it may be relied upon to accurately identify melanoma tumors. In addition to fetal melanocytes, nevus cells also respond favorably. To keep it intact and retain its quality, it must be maintained at 4 degrees Celsius and utilized within a 2-month window.

WHY?

Positive staining diseases include angiomyolipoma, clear cell sarcoma, clear cell sugar tumor, renal cell carcinoma, melanocytosis, pigmented neural tumor, tuberous sclerosis complex component, epithelioid sarcoma, lymphoma, and PEComa, while negative staining includes adult melanocyte, atypical fibroxanthoma, liposarcoma, breast, vulva, and scrotum paget disease.

PRECAUTIONS

To continue with the test, a tiny tissue or cell from the targeted location must be obtained. To prevent the transmission of microbial and bacterial diseases, precautions must be taken before collecting the material for the test. In order to prevent the transmission of illness, the tools that will be used must be adequately sterilised. Tools are important, but it's also important to remember personal cleanliness and sanitation. It is advised to use gloves and a mask to reduce the danger of infection. Last but not least, keep chemicals away from your eyes and mucous membranes. Reagent contamination must also be prevented.
